Plastic Electronics Pioneer, Plastic Logic, Receives New $50 Million Round of Venture Capital from World-Class Investors
Reinvestment Supports Next Growth Phase | 4 Aug 2008

Mountain View, CA, Cambridge, UK and Dresden, Germany – Aug. 4, 2008 – Plastic Logic today announced it has raised a new round of $50 million in equity finance led by existing venture capital investors Oak Investment Partners and Amadeus Capital Partners, joined by its previous world-class investors. Plastic Logic is the developer of industry-leading products and services to access, organize and consume digital information, based on its pioneering plastic electronics technology. To date, the company has raised more than $200 million.

Since its founding in 2000 by leading researchers out of the Cambridge University Cavendish Laboratory, Plastic Logic has developed broad and deep intellectual property in plastic electronics, essentially a semiconductor replacement technology that has broad applicability across many markets. The Company’s first product implementation solves critical issues in manufacturing flexible, thin, highly scalable plastic displays that are lightweight, offer high viewing quality and low power consumption. Plastic Logic plans to enter the market with a consumer electronics device incorporating this groundbreaking display technology in early 2009.

“We are approaching very significant milestones in the creation of the plastic electronics industry with the opening of our Dresden plant and the pending launch of our first commercial consumer electronics product,” said CEO Richard Archuleta. “This new investment will enable expanded business operations in support of our first commercial product early next year while we continue to develop our IP to deliver on our broader long-term vision.”

“We have placed a big bet that plastic electronics is, indeed, a game-changing technology. Over time, the markets and possibilities for plastic electronics are endless,” said noted technology investor Hermann Hauser of Amadeus Capital.

Plastic Logic maintains research and development in Cambridge, England, and is bringing online a new high-volume, state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Dresden, Germany that is scheduled to open Sept. 17, 2008. The Company also recently established a Mountain View, California, headquarters for management, product engineering, product supply chain, sales and marketing.

Plastic Logic Opens world's First Commercial Plastic Electronics Manufacturing Factory In Dresden, Germany
German Dignitaries and Industry VIPs Mark Occasion in Silicon Saxony | 17 Sept 2008
DRESDEN, GERMANY – September 17, 2008 – Plastic Logic, the world's leader in plastic electronics, today officially opened a state-of-the-art commercial scale plastic electronics manufacturing facility. The Dresden factory is a fully automated and integrated facility that will begin volume production of groundbreaking displays based on Plastic Logic's patented and proprietary plastic electronics technology.

"The world's first commercial scale plastic electronics manufacturing facility is now open," said Plastic Logic CEO Richard Archuleta. "Today marks an extraordinary achievement for our company and the plastic electronics industry. It also marks a major milestone in preparation for the delivery of our first consumer electronics product early next year."

Plastic Logic's core technology solves the critical issue in manufacturing high-resolution transistor arrays on flexible plastic substrates using a low-temperature. The process is simpler than conventional glass silicon processes, and produces active matrix displays that are thinner, lighter and more robust than glass.

The Dresden factory is set to begin volume production of the display that is the key feature of Plastic Logic's forthcoming electronic reading product, scheduled to come to market in early 2009. Attendees at today's ceremony, including local and industry dignitaries, received a sneak preview of the product in addition to a view of the specialized factory.

Facts About The Factory
• The Plastic Logic plant was completed and ready for production in record time - just 16 months after the building's cornerstone was laid in May 2007.

• Advanced new processes and tools were specified, designed and created to successfully transfer proof of concept technology and processes first developed in Plastic Logic's Cambridge, UK research and development lab.

• Plastic Logic utilized a unique mix of standard production equipment from display manufacturing and other industries that were tailored to produce displays in high volumes at costs to give it significant competitive advantage.

• The factory was designed for flexibility and the capacity to produce hundreds of thousands of the displays annually.

Plastic Logic's Managing Director and Vice President of Manufacturing, Konrad Herre, said: "Our on-time opening of this first-of-its-kind facility was made possible by the ingenuity, dedication and tireless efforts of our employees both here and in the UK, our ability to enlist and collaborate with a group of world-class suppliers, and the strong commitment of German officials and our investors."
